"I couldn’t even pick the lesson deck..."
I couldn’t even pick the lesson deck I actually needed, which was super frustrating. It feels like one of those policy loopholes where everything technically follows the rules, but the user still gets stuck with no real option. Really annoying experience

"Pretty helpful for sticking with Chinese characters"
I’ve been using Skritter for a few months now while learning Chinese, mainly for practicing characters and tones. I’m not always sure if I’m studying the “right” way, but I do feel like the writing practice helps things stick in my brain way better than regular flashcards.
The app is straightforward, and I really like that it points out stroke order mistakes, because I definitely wouldn’t catch all of those on my own. That said, the syncing can feel a little slow or glitchy sometimes, unless maybe that’s just my phone or connection acting up.
Overall, I think it’s a solid tool if you actually want to get better at writing Chinese. It’s not perfect, and I still have a long way to go, but I’m happy I’ve been using it

"I was hoping the tone practice would make..."
I was hoping the tone practice would make things clearer, but it still feels confusing. The pronunciation help is kind of weak, and the feedback doesn’t explain what I’m doing wrong very well. I keep guessing at the tones, which is not exactly ideal. Maybe it works better for other people, but for me it hasn’t been that useful.

"Progress tracking is decent, I guess"
The progress tracking works okay and gives you a general idea of where you are, but it could definitely be clearer. Like, it’s not bad, actually, wait, it’s kind of frustrating when you just want a quick, obvious update and have to figure it out yourself

"App kept freezing and it felt really careless"
I was trying to get through my lessons, but the web app kept freezing on me over and over. It made the lessons feel buggy and wasted a lot of my study time. What bothered me most was how careless the whole thing felt, like nobody had properly checked it before putting it out there...

"Honestly feels overpriced"
I was kind of in a hurry when I bought it, so maybe I didn’t compare enough, but the price feels unfair for what you get.

"The handwriting recognition kept throwing me off"
I really wanted to like the handwriting practice, but the recognition just felt way too strict or inaccurate for me. I would literally watch the stroke order, copy it as closely as I could, and still get marked wrong over and over. I get that handwriting needs to be precise, but it was frustrating because I couldn’t tell if I was actually making a mistake or if the app just wasn’t reading it properly. After a few lessons, it started feeling less like practice and more like arguing with the screen, so I ended up stopping.

"Good idea, just too buggy for me"
I really wanted to like Skritter since the writing practice is actually useful, but the app just feels kinda clunky. It would freeze on me sometimes and syncing between my phone and the web version was a pain. For what it costs, I expected it to run smoother. The stroke practice part is nice, but I got frustrated with it too many times and just stopped using it.

"I do like Skritter, and compared to other..."
I do like Skritter, and compared to other apps I’ve tried for practicing characters, it actually helps me remember them better. The problem is that lately it keeps freezing or crashing right in the middle of my reviews, which gets frustrating fast. I’ve also had a few times where my progress didn’t seem to save correctly. It’s a good app when it’s working, but I really hope they sort out the bugs soon

"Custom word lists just weren’t worth the hassle"
I mainly got Skritter because I wanted to study from my own word lists, that part was frustrating. Adding words felt slower and clunkier than it should, and a few times my lists didn’t save properly or things showed up in a weird order. It’s not even about having every feature be perfect — I just didn’t expect to spend so much time fixing and reorganizing lists instead of actually studying. I’m sure the premade content works better, but for custom lists, it just wasn’t worth it for me.

"Helpful for vocab, but a little confusing"
skritter has definitely helped me remember some Chinese words better, especially because of the writing practice. I do feel like the review system gets kind of repetitive though, and sometimes I’m sitting there like, why is this word back again already?? It’s useful overall, just not really something I end up using every single day.

"I mostly use Skritter for vocab practice..."
I mostly use Skritter for vocab practice, and the dictionary has been solid for me. The definitions are usually easy to understand, and the example words help things stick a bit better, especially when I’m trying to remember how something is actually used...

Every now and then I still end up checking Pleco, because a few meanings feel a little too brief or don’t quite match how my teacher explains them. But for quick lookups while studying, it’s reliable and convenient, so I’d give it 4 stars overall...

"Kana practice was more frustrating than helpful"
I gave Skritter a try for kana practice, mostly just wanting some basic hiragana and katakana drills, but it kind of got on my nerves. The writing checker felt weird, sometimes it acted super picky over tiny stuff, and other times it let things slide that looked off to me. So I never really knew what it wanted. The whole thing felt a bit clunky for what should’ve been simple practice. I messed with it for a short bit, then cancelled. Just wasn’t worth it for me.

"Updates are decent, but still a bit clunky lol"
The new features are helpful and I do appreciate the updates, but the app still feels a little clunky to use sometimes lol. It’s better than before, just not quite smooth yet

"Audio is alright, but not super clear"
I’ve been using Skritter mostly to get some practice in, and the audio is kind of hit or miss for me. Some words sound totally fine, but others are a little quiet or sort of muffled, if that makes sense. It’s not awful or anything, and I can still use it, but I guess I was expecting it to be a bit more consistent for listening practice.

"App keeps freezing when I practice"
The app has been super laggy on my phone lately, especially during practice sessions. It keeps freezing at random times and makes it hard to keep going. Has anyone else been having the same issue?

"Skritter has been helpful for practicing characters..."
Skritter has been helpful for practicing characters, especially when it comes to stroke order. I like that it actually makes me write things out instead of just recognizing answers from flashcards.

That said, it can be a little too picky about handwriting sometimes, and the reviews stack up quicker than I’d like. For the price, I kind of expected the whole thing to feel a bit smoother, but it’s still useful overall. I just don’t find myself using it every day.

"My first impression of skritter was really positive..."
My first impression of skritter was really positive. It felt like a smart, useful way to practice characters, and I liked that the writing practice made things feel more active than just flipping through flashcards.
After using it for a while though, the reviews started piling up fast. If I missed even a day or two, it suddenly felt like I had a ton to catch up on, and it became more like homework than practice. I still think the app has a solid idea behind it, but unless you have time to use it consistently every day, it can get stressful to keep up

"Support was honestly no help"
I ran into an issue with my account and reached out to support thinking it would be a quick fix. Instead, it took FOREVER to hear back, and when they finally responded, it felt like they hadn’t really read my message at all.

I sent more details to try to clear things up, but still didn’t get anything useful back. The app itself might be fine, but the support experience was so frustrating that it made me not want to keep using it

"I really wanted to like skritter for Japanese..."
I really wanted to like skritter for Japanese, and to be fair, the writing practice itself is solid. It’s a good concept and I can see how it would help some learners stay consistent. That said, the Japanese side felt a bit under-supported to me. A few explanations were confusing, and when I got stuck, I didn’t feel like there was enough guidance to help me move forward. For the price, I expected a little more support specifically for learning Japanese, not just practicing characters.
